CCC: Nutter Butter Cereal – Review

Chris Shields, Head Editor

Sugar Wafers, Milanos, Oreos, Jammi Dodgers, Macarons, and Do-Si-Do’s are among some of the most famous sandwich cookies of all time. Two thin cookies with a layer of filling between them is such a brilliant concept that it has been replicated more times than you can imagine. They’re delicious and mouthwatering, and I’m sure you’re a fan of some, if not all, of those famous brands of sandwich cookie, but there’s one cookie I didn’t add to that list that we all know and love: the Nutter Butter.

Nabisco is a household name, and their products are snack staples in American households. Belvita, Chips Ahoy!, Fig Newtons, Honey Maid, Lorna Doone, Nilla, Oreo, Premium Saltines, Ritz, Triscuits, and Wheat Thins are all popular Nabisco brands you may have heard of or enjoyedThe original and iconic Nutter Butter was released 51 years ago and is still a staple in Americans’ pantry. Delicious, soft baked peanut butter biscuits with a light, creamy peanut butter layer between them is enough to drive anyone insane.

Post Consumer Brands realized this back in December 2017 when they first introduced their Nutter Butter Cereal. A great addition to their long list of cereals including Cocoa and Fruity Pebbles, Honey Bunches of Oats, Honey-Comb, and more, Nutter Butter cereal is one that stands out from all the rest.

While General Mills combined cookies and cereal with Cookie Crisp long before Nutter Butter cereal, Post has been trying their hand at it with Chips Ahoy! Cereal, Oreo O’s, Golden Oreo O’s, Mega Stuf Oreo O’s, and now this treat.

Nutter Butter cereal comes in a bright red box boasting the fact it’s made with real peanut butter, and with the classic Nutter Butter logo at the top. The image of the cereal shows that each piece is shaped like a little peanut, similar to the peanut-shaped cookie they’re inspired by. With no whole grains to be found, and at 180 calories and 16 grams of sugar per 1 ¼ cup serving, this cereal does little in the way of health, but it does list actual peanut butter as one of the top ingredients which is promising.

The joy of this cereal begins right when you open the box. Holy mother of peanut butter, this smells amazing. As a huge peanut butter fan, the scent of this cereal is utterly tantalizing. I sat and smelled this for a good ten minutes or so before even pouring it into a bowl.

The pieces look exactly like they do on the box, which is super fun and unique, earning Post mad props for their presentation. It can be difficult to find a cereal that is just as good dry as it is with milk, but this is it. Whether or not you’re a fan of milk in your cereal, you’re in luck. This is by far the best tasting peanut butter cereal on the market, sorry Cap’n Crunch, and is perfect with or without the addition of milk.

It is a SUPER sweet cereal, but if that doesn’t bother you, this is heaven. PB lovers, prepare to have your cravings satisfied after a bowl of this stuff.

It tastes exactly like a Nutter Butter cookie and provides a really satisfying crunch. However, this is a blessing and a curse; it cuts up the roof of your mouth for the first couple spoonfuls like you wouldn’t believe. It’s such a great cereal that I can live with my bleeding gums.

The pieces are perfectly sized as you can fit a decent amount on each spoon. They don’t get soggy very quickly and retain their crunch for quite a while. I was also surprised at how satisfied I was after a bowl of this. The only slight let down is the milk at the end, which isn’t anything special at all.

My first bowl of Nutter Butter cereal is a memory I will fondly look back on for the rest of my life, and I find myself constantly looking forward to my next bowl. This is the peanut butter cereal to beat all other peanut butter cereals, and it perfectly captures everything good about Nutter Butter cookies. Nutter Butter cereal earns itself a 90%, A grade, and I personally can’t wait to try Post’s other cookie cereals. Post, thank you for this cereal, and I have very high hopes for Oreo O’s and Chips Ahoy!
