Phones create a barrier between students and their learning as well as causing a decrease in their mental health. 97% of students often go on their phones when they feel bored or want to check up on the latest news that’s among their peers, receiving an average of 50 notifications per day, further distracting them from learning.
Phones can be a great tool for learning that allows access for more opportunities to get greater information from more sources. Phones are an easy alternative for keeping in touch with classmates for projects or discussing homework. Most students already know their way around technology so they’re just using what they’re most confident in to get the best results possible.
Not having phones may feel difficult but it may be time to “lean in and realize it’s probably not as hard as you think,” (The Oracle). The time without phones for students could provide opportunities to connect more, play games, and enhance your learning skills.
