(Helena, MT), Art 1, one of the building blocks for aspiring students into an art career, or just to get credit is hosted in Mr. Scanlon’s hidden classroom of room 50, it gives students the building blocks of art and the important methods of creating art, with the rest of the year focusing on the methods using color.
Art 1 focuses on the key items in making art as well as explaining the types of artworks. So far in the year, the class has been taught shading, patterns, two- and one-point perspective and most recently: color. Students have no real reason to use the excuse of “I have no experience” because it doesn’t matter, art is a learning experience, and it gets easier as you go on, just like any other subject.
“Art 1 is about the fundamentals of art and the history of KISS” said Mr. Scanlon, who has taught Art 1, 2, 4 and Drivers Ed for 29 years, all without switching rooms once. “I wanted to go into architecture, I even enrolled in it in Arizona, but I changed my mind when I saw a presentation on graphic design, and I changed my mind in five minutes”. Art 1 has and will be a great class for students for the foreseeable future as it pulls more and more students into its influence, which is not a bad thing.
