On February 20th, the 31st annual Night to Shine will be held at the Civic Center at 7 p.m., showcasing some of Helena’s most talented teens. Acts will include singing, dancing, comedy, dog tricks, and much more
Proceeds from ticket sales will go to help fund Helena DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) programs and events. Tickets cost $20, and only $10 for students and staff.
To be a part of the show, students audition before a panel of judges including members of the Helena performing arts community and DECA students and advisors. The event includes students from Helena High and Capital.
Mr. Askin, the marketing and business education teacher at Helena High School and advisor of the DECA club, noted that “this year we have 21 acts” so bring plenty of snacks!
“I think you, as students and staff, would really enjoy coming,” Mr. Askin noted.
Aside from showcasing student talent, Night to Shine is a “lab/project-based learning experience for DECA students” as stated by the Civic Center’s website. Students have real-world opportunities to work as “stagehands, emcees, and in public relations, advertising, and media as it relates to marketing and producing a community event” states the website.
HHS DECA also helped create a commercial for the event. Click here to watch.
Originally created as a fundraiser for the DECA programs at Helena High and Capital High School, Night to Shine has since become a beloved community event. This year, Stockman Bank will sponsor the event. Mr. Askin remarked that “We would love for students to show up.” Costing upwards of $12,000 to put on the event, let’s all make for a sold-out show!
