CCC: Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch – Review

Chris Shields, Head Editor

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is by far my favorite and arguably one of the greatest breakfast cereals of all time. Delicious flavor, pleasant texture, full of sugar, and who can forget those hilarious crazy squares on the commercials as well as every box. This General Mills cereal is iconic and essentially a box of happiness available for purchase at your local supermarket.

Children love Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Adults love Cinnamon Toast Crunch. And heck, if you watch the advertisements on TV, even Cinnamon Toast Crunch itself can’t help but crave those crazy squares. For 36 years now this cereal has been at the top of everyone’s grocery list, and General Mills has taken advantage of that.

Capitalizing on the popularity of this breakfast treat, the company has released varieties of CTC in the ways of Chocolate Toast Crunch, Peanut Butter Toast Crunch, French Toast Crunch, Churros (essentially CTC but in a different shape), and of course, back by popular demand for this holiday season, the fan-favorite Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch.

As if you thought breakfast cereal couldn’t get any further from healthy and closer to what we want to eat than a cereal based on cinnamon sugar, we are blessed with one based on sugar cookies!

The festive box design features a twist on the old CTC logo to announce the new product, a vibrant and festive red color scheme, and the adorable cinnamojis dressed in winter apparel. There are also massive cinnamoji faces present on the back of each box, just like the CTC boxes, except now they are Christmas themed.

Nutritionally, Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch is identical to its original counterpart containing 170 calories and 12 grams of sugar per cup. It’s still the whole grain cereal that General Mills brags about and is still packed full of sugar sweetness to keep us buying.

When you open the box of Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch, the delicious aroma of fresh-baked Christmas cookies fills the room. The cereal smells exactly like the Christmas treat it’s intending to replicate and that’s one of the highlights of this release. The pieces are the same shape and size as normal CTC pieces, but with a slightly lighter color.

The flavor is in keeping with its scent and tastes just like a sugar cookie dipped in milk. It’s fantastic. End of discussion. The scent, the taste, the texture, the appearance, the milk afterward, all of it. Perfection.

This cereal takes all the best parts of our favorite cereal and puts a fun seasonal twist on it. Not necessarily better or worse than the original, just different, and that’s exactly how it should be. The classic crunch is still there, the fun experience is still there, and you’re still left with amazing tasting milk at the end of the bowl.

If Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch was worse than the original it would be a disappointment, but if it was better it would be disappointing that it’s only a seasonal release. This cereal is perfect, just like Cinnamon Toast Crunch and if you haven’t stockpiled your cupboards full of it yet, I highly recommend you do so before it sells out. I personally have bought many boxes already.
