Swim Team

It’s winter Helena High, and swim season has started! The teams consist of both girls and boys, two in which are seniors. I spoke with a few swim members this past week, asking them about the current swim season is going and how their swimming life began. Alex Ackerlund, a senior here at HHS, has been swimming for nine years. Ackerlund tells me he was inspired two olympics ago – by the one and only Michael Phelps. “[I learned] It’s never too late to be the person in front of you.. If someone out there is considering joining swim, I would tell them to do it! It’s a great sport, and if you can swim, you can do anything.” Unfortunately, this year’s swim season is not accepting anymore people, but the team encourages others to consider joining next year.

Natalie Smith, a sophomore on the swim team, has been swimming for nine years now. Smith says that swim is a “ Great workout and you meet really positive people all around the state. It’s great.” Her goals include having a better breast-stroke time, and meet new friends this swim season. When she was younger, she wanted a change in her concentration, social skills, and wanted to make changes to her health in which inspired her to join swim. “People should really consider doing swim. It’s fun, you lose weight, keeps you busy and helps you manage your stress. Not to mention, it’s really good for your body!”

There is swim practice Mon-Fri for two hours – one hour in which consists of dry land activities and one hour in the pool. The swim season lasts until around February, so let’s cheer on our swim team! If any of you are considering joining swim in the future, definitely look into it next season.
